Stories are one of the most powerful communication methods humans use and we use it since the dawn of time. The way we teach each other values, beliefs, warnings and exemplary behavior is through telling stories. The downside of this is that most of us don’t realize the stories we are telling ourselves on a daily basis.
Those stories are mostly limiting because we make ourselves believe that we are our stories. “Why does this always happen to me”, “I always attract bad men”, “I never seem to get the right job”, “things don’t come easy for me”, “it’s tough”, “it feels like pushing a boulder uphill”. Stories can be metaphors or simple one liners. What metaphor comes to your mind when you think about life or relationships?
There are stories we tell ourselves over and over until they define who we think we are.
What stories do you tell yourself? Are those empowering stories or limiting ones?
